¹⁶ Also, anoint^(A) Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha^(B) son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah^(C) to succeed you as prophet.

The Call of Elisha

¹⁹ So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak^(A) around him.

¹¹ But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may inquire^(A) of the Lord?”

An officer of the king of Israel answered, “Elisha^(B) son of Shaphat is here. He used to pour water on the hands of Elijah.^[a](C)”

³¹ He said, “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today!”
